When the beach season slowly comes to an end, the mountains behind the coast become the best place for a day out. One of the most impressive trips from Alanya leads into Köprülü Canyon National Park, to the deep gorge of Tazi Canyon and the ancient mountain city of Selge. In autumn the air is fresh, the forests are quiet and the views are clear.
Tazi Canyon, also called Greyhound Canyon, is a narrow gorge with steep rock walls that drop hundreds of metres. A viewing point lets you look straight down into the canyon – one of the most photographed spots in the region. Stay behind the railings and enjoy the silence.
In summer the inland valleys can get very hot, while in autumn the temperatures are pleasant for walking around the ruins. The light is softer, the forests along the river smell of pine, and there are fewer visitors at the viewpoint. Days are shorter, though, so it is best to start in the morning.
The drive from Alanya takes roughly two hours each way, and the last part of the route is a winding mountain road. If you prefer to relax and leave the driving to someone else, book the Tazi Canyon and Selge Ancient City Tour – you can check the programme, inclusions and current price on the booking page.
If you like to travel at your own pace, a car is a great option: you can start early, stop wherever you want and combine the canyon with other places on the way. Have a look at our rent a car offers in Alanya and choose the car that fits your trip.
