Pamukkale from Alanya in Autumn: Tips for a Perfect Day Trip

The white travertine terraces of Pamukkale and the ancient city of Hierapolis are among the most famous sights in Turkey, and autumn is one of the best times to see them. The summer heat is gone, the light is soft and the terraces are much more pleasant to walk on.

How far is Pamukkale from Alanya?

Pamukkale lies inland, near Denizli. By road it is roughly a five-hour drive from Alanya in each direction, so most visitors leave early in the morning and return in the evening. It is a long day, but the scenery through the Taurus Mountains makes the journey part of the experience.

What to see

  • The travertines: the calcium terraces filled with warm, shallow water. You must walk on them barefoot to protect the surface.
  • Hierapolis: the ruins of a Roman spa city, with a large theatre, a necropolis and well-preserved streets.
  • The Antique Pool: warm thermal water with ancient columns lying on the bottom. Entry to the pool is paid separately on site.

What to wear in autumn

  • Layers: mornings and evenings can be cool, while the afternoon sun is still warm.
  • Sunglasses – the white rock reflects a lot of light.
  • A small towel and a bag for your shoes when you walk on the terraces.
  • A swimsuit if you plan to use the Antique Pool.

Join a tour or drive yourself?

A guided tour is the easiest option: no navigation, no parking and a guide who explains the history. Our Pamukkale and Hierapolis tour picks you up from your hotel in Alanya; the tour page shows what is included and the current price.

If you prefer your own schedule and want to stop along the way, you can also rent a car in Alanya and plan the route yourself – ideally with an overnight stay near Pamukkale to avoid driving there and back in one day.
