Alanya Castle by Cable Car: A Relaxed City Day in Autumn

Not every holiday day has to be spent on a sunbed. On a mild autumn day, the centre of Alanya is perfect for exploring – the summer crowds are gone and the sun is pleasant instead of burning. The highlight is Alanya Castle, which you can reach comfortably by cable car.

Up to the castle by cable car

The cable car starts near Damlataş Beach, next to the famous Cleopatra Beach, and climbs the castle hill in a few minutes. From the cabin you see the long sandy beach, the old town and the turquoise sea below you – one of the best views on the whole Turkish Riviera.

What to see in Alanya

  • Alanya Castle: the walls of this medieval fortress, built mainly in the Seljuk period in the 13th century, run around the peninsula. Inside you will find old houses, a small mosque and viewpoints over both bays.
  • The Red Tower (Kızıl Kule): the octagonal tower by the harbour is the symbol of the city and was built to protect the shipyard.
  • Damlataş Cave: a dripstone cave right by the beach, known for its humid, mineral-rich air.
  • The harbour and old town: narrow streets, cafés and boats – a nice place to end the day with a Turkish tea.

Tips for your city day

  • Wear comfortable shoes – the paths inside the castle are steep and uneven in places.
  • Bring a light jacket for the evening; autumn evenings can be fresh.
  • Plan the castle for the afternoon to enjoy the soft light and the sunset over the sea.
